The answer is no you don’t have to sign a contract unless you want a phone on it.
The 16 g is 500 dollars, the 32 gig is 600 and the 64 g is 700
These are prices without the phone option.

The 3G is optional, but will cost 180 dollars more plus the monthly cost.

No, you don’t need to sign a contract if you choose to buy the ipad with wifi service only. Apple only makes you sign a contract if you choose to buy the wifi and 3g service.
